IM South Asia Newsletter, July - December 2017

Published 9 January 2018

Greetings from IM Swedish Development Partner!

I’m very glad to know that you are reading our first ever South Asia newsletter. The fact that we are starting to disseminate newsletters every six months is indicative of that we are stepping up our networking and visibility efforts in the South Asia region.

newsletterDuring this year I have strengthened our regional team with a Regional Communications Officer Ms. Alina Karki and a Regional Fundraising Officer Mr. Pratibedan Baidya who have both contributed to producing this newsletter.

It is an exciting time for us at IM Swedish Development Partner. We are about to close up our first three year period (2015-2017) being a Frame Organization of Sida, The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Soon we are going to embark on the adventure of Strategic Planning for our next strategic period, 2019-2023. We have a clear ambition to scale up our support to the South Asia region, both financially and geographically. Our thematic focus areas will continue to be on education and economic empowerment, with an overall objective of strengthening civil society.

Going into the next strategic period we are also aiming towards taking a stronger and more systematic grip on our work with strengthening civil society. Among other things, we intend to do this through Organizational and Capacity Development of our partner organizations in both India and Nepal. Given the situation both in this region, but also in the world at large – we need to ensure there are strong civil society actors who stand up for the rights of the marginalized groups. Our partners’ organizational and capacity development can be directly linked to strategic outcomes, such as strong, professional CSOs capable of answering to the needs of their target group, and working strategically on for example advocacy and policy matters.

Going forward into the future for IM Swedish Development Partner in South Asia, we will be looking to tie up and collaborate with a variety of strategic actors and partners who can contribute towards amplifying the outcome and impact of the development work that we do. Given the complexity of today’s development challenges, we genuinely believe that we can be much stronger if we work together.
I hope that you will enjoy reading this newsletter and learning about the results and the work that we have done recently. If you have any feedback on this first ever edition, please do not hesitate to contact our regional team. We would be happy to hear from you.

Best regards,
Sofia Olsson
